St. Louis

Some weeks after I had arrived to the United States to study, some had arisen with the idea of visiting St. Louis.

I have the memory of a very cold morning when they picked me up. We were a group of students from different parts of the world, euphoric with a different day.

Upon arrival, on the banks of the Mississippi, we came across with an engineering marvel of 190 meters high known as the "gateway to the West": The Arch. To reach it, we had to go across a park completely snowed. To our surprise, this thin arc offered the opportunity to climb in the smallest elevator I have ever seen, where there were literally four people seated. Upon reaching the top, we found a corridor and some windows similar to that of an aircraft. To be able to look through them one had to lie, that way it was easy to stare at the entire city and some designs in the snow especially made by those who roam around.

After lunch we had to decide other activity, some of us went to the zoo and others to the museum of fine arts. We went back to being kids, running-as it had generated a war of snow-through the aisles among animals.

I hope I never forget the deep laughter of that day…
